A while back I blogged about wanting to experience this thing called Isolation tanks.
Here's my story:
So I called in advance to book a session at the Float Lab in Venice California. Believe it or not, their weekends are booked up so it may be a few weeks wait. I reserved for me and a friend. We arrived a bit early and had to wait because they were cleaning up the tanks. First greeted by Crash (creator of these float lab tanks) is definitely an interesting guy. He first had us stand on this vibration machine for ten minutes or so as he gave us information about the tanks. You are then asked to sign a release form that seemed harmless. I have no ailments or physical problems, so nothing to worry about. I WANT TO FLOAT!!
Crash then handed us a pair of ear plugs and showed us to our own private room tanks. He told us that he is leaving the facility and will be back in 2 hours to wake us up. He leaves.
First things first, before you go into the tank you must shower. I removed my contact lenses, washed myself with the provided organic soap and shampoo for my hair (you use the conditioner during the second shower ). Once squeeky clean, I inserted my ear plugs in and opened up the steel door in my birthday suit.
I STEP INSIDE.
The water was luke warm and felt like fluid on my skin.
From my understanding, this whole sensation is to simulate you being inside the womb.
I didn't like the fact of closing the door completely shut, only because it was just a weird thought to be in complete darkness and not finding the exit.
I was being a bit of a wuss.. I admit it, but who wants to be accidentally stuck in a dark ass tank?!?
So, I left the door open just a small crack,... just in case... I know.. I know...
I laid down into the water and started floating with little to no effort but, I see the outline of light where the door is cracked and I can feel a breeze.
It is breaking the zen of this moment, so I tell myself "Look, if you're gonna do it, do it right".
I then sealed myself into complete darkness.
I kneeled down and submerged my naked body into the epsom salt water.
Raising my arms straight up, I stretch my body out in total submission.
At first, your body is moving with the water currents that you have caused trying to float in the tank.
Once the water starts to become still...
As I floated in stillness, my mind started to race.
I'm trying to see things, but it is pitch dark.
I'm trying to hear things, but things are faint and quiet.
I'm trying to feel things but I am stretched out and I don't know how far I am from the sides of the tank.
I'm in complete suspension.
Not to freak anybody out, but for the first five to ten minutes, I was having random thoughts go through my mind, especially a vision of a demon inside the water facing me. I had to allow the fear to pass and not pay attention to it. Whatever that "energy" was, it was trying to ruin my experience. You must allow all fears to pass and work through them.
AND THEN SUDDENLY IT HAPPENED! EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING WOULD HAPPEN.
All of a sudden, everything stood STILL. When I tell you that time stopped, I feel like time no longer existed. With this feeling of stillness came another vision. I then saw myself floating in space amongst the stars, just existing.
I felt like I was a part of the Universe.
Part of the constellations;
Part of everything in this galaxy.
A FEELING OF ONENESS CAME OVER ME.
I had no worries, no cares, just pure bliss. I felt I had transended to a different dimensional plane.
"This must be what Nirvana is, the feeling of being everything, but nothing at all. It was the biggest revelation that I had ever had in my life."
THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN...
I snapped out of the meditation because my friend was calling my name from the door. I get out to find that she had gotten out of the tank early because her tank was too hot and she was having a hard time concentrating. I don't blame her, it can be difficult to enjoy if the tank is too hot. So I took my second shower to wash off all the salt water.
I call Crash to tell him that we are finished after only 30 minutes out of the 2 hours. I told him that my friend's tank was too hot, but I would be back.
As we walked back to my car, I felt like I not only had left a massage, but I felt like a renewed person. Everything my eyes fell upon I appreciated.
I felt I was seeing through a different pair of eyes.
I WAS EXPERIENCING LIFE FROM A DIFFERENT VIBRATION.
I have yet to book my second appointment so I can experience the full two hours.
Crash I will be back soon!
